Public Speaking

The fear of public speaking or speech anxiety is one of the most common phobias. The name of this phobia is 'glossophobia', glosso meaning tongue and phobos meaning fear or dread.

The most common statements from people experiencing fear of public speaking are:

I feel too self-conscious, I get tongue-tied, my mind goes blank, I'm afraid of making a mistake, my mouth dries up, I'm afraid of looking stupid, I'm worried what people will think of me.

Anyone giving a public presentation needs a little bit of adrenalin in their system, but only enough to enable them to think on their feet and put a bit of energy into their speech. The skill in giving a good public presentation is to be well prepared and rehearsed and to project your energy outwards towards your audience so that you are not focussing inwardly and becoming self-conscious. Once you can control your feelings of anxiety you can easily get to a point where you actually enjoy speaking in public.

Hypnotherapy is an excellent treatment for the fear of public speaking. Together, we can eliminate your personal anxieties through hypnosis and suggestion and we can use techniques such as visualisations and future projection to enable you to speak confidently in front of any audience.
